Feminine product overview

Basically, feminine protection products absorb menstrual flow. Some products, such as pads are worn externally by placing them in underwear.  Others, such as tampons are worn internally to capture fluid at the source. Many girls and women use a combination of products as a “system”. For example, pantiliners are great for those days right before your period when you're not sure it’s coming.

When you start your period for the first time, you may want to try a variety of products to manage your flow.  Many girls start out using pads, some go straight to using tampons.  There is no “wait time” to use tampons you can start using them right when you start menstruating. Always® pads and Tampax® tampons are both available in a various absorbencies to meet your individual needs.

The skinny on tampons

Tampons are worn inside the vagina and absorb menstrual blood at the source, before it leaves the body. When using tampons, it’s important to choose the lowest absorbency necessary for your menstrual flow. And because the amount of flow varies from day to day, it's likely that you will need to use different absorbencies on different days of your period. Selecting the right absorbency comes with experience but, as a guide, if a tampon absorbs as much as it can and has to be changed before four hours, then you may want to try a higher absorbency. On the other hand, if you remove a tampon and after 4 – 8 hours white fiber is still showing, you should choose a lower absorbency. A tampon can be worn for a maximum of eight hours. Tampons can be worn at night for up to eight hours.  Choose the lowest absorbency needed, insert a fresh tampon just before going to bed, and remove it as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Tampax® tampons come with an applicator that makes it easy to guide the tampon into just the right place. Because they come with an applicator there's no need to touch the tampon when it’s being inserted. In the U.S. and Canada lots of girls start with Tampax® Pearl Plastic tampons. The Pearl applicator is smooth with a rounded tip, so insertion is comfortable and easy. Plus it’s got a contoured Anti-Slip Grip that makes it easy to hold and position.

Why tampons rock

Feeling confident is one reason many girls prefer tampons over pads. Tampons offer “invisible” protection and help you keep your period private. Tampons can be worn confidently under shorts, a tight skirt or a bathing suit without showing. Wearing a tampon gives you the freedom to shower, bathe, and play sports, even swim while you’re on your period. And because tampons are worn internally, there's less reason to worry about odor. They're also convenient, not to mention small enough to be carried in your pocket.
