talking about sex 

Dear Iris,
When is the best time to talk to your child about sex? My daughter is in 5th grade, and is 10 years old. I know that they talk about sex in 5th grade, but I think I should talk to her before she hears it in school.

Dear Kelly,
I agree with you. Why not start talking with her now? Let her know that she will be getting information in school, but you’d like to go over it with her first. Then, after she has the class in school, review the material with her. This should open up the lines of communication so that she will share other issues with you as well.
